Research activities

Interests lie in materials chemistry; primarily metal phosphonates but also a general interest in inorganic materials. Research focus is the synthesis and characterisation (chemical and structural) of new materials for applications in photophysics (photo- or electroluminescence) and anti bacterial activity.聽

Published around 60 peer reviewed papers, two book chapters and generated around 拢3 million in external funding from EPSRC, Marie Curie (EU), British Council, Technology Strategy Board (KTP) and the Royal Society of Chemistry among others.聽


Biography

Studied for BSc and PhD at the University of Exeter before Post Doctoral positions in Montpellier (France), Birmingham and St Andrews.聽

First academic position as Lecturer in Chemistry at De Montfort University in 1999. Joined Nottingham Trent University in 2005 as Senior Lecturer in Chemistry, being promoted to Principal Lecturer and courses manager in 2010 and leading both Physical and Inorganic Chemistry. Became Head of Department in 2015.

Left NTU to join Wolverhampton University as Head of School of Sciences in 2016, leading a School of 70 academics providing over 50 programmes to 1400 students.

Promoted to Professor of Materials Chemistry in 2018. Research activity is based primarily on metal phosphonate chemistry, and a general interest in inorganic materials.聽
